(cite index="28-1">Founded in 1942, Osem Investments Ltd. is one of the largest food manufacturers and distributors in Israel — producing coffee, pasta, breakfast cereals, confectionery and snacks under brands including Bamba, Bissli, and more.</cite)

Eighty-four years. That is how long Osem has been feeding Israel.

Founded in 1942, four years before the State of Israel itself, Osem started as a small noodle factory in Bnei Brak and grew into the largest food company in Israel — the brand behind Bamba, Bissli, Petit Beurre, Shkedei Marak, and dozens of other products that define what Israeli cooking and snacking looks like.

(cite index="28-1">In 1953, upon a request by Israel's first prime minister David Ben-Gurion, Osem added its staple "rice-substitute" product — ptitim.</cite) In 1964, the snack factory was founded in Holon — and Bamba was born. The rest is Israeli food history.

Today, Osem is owned by Nestlé but remains the distinctly Israeli brand it has always been — the products unchanged, the flavors unchanged, the cultural place in Israeli life unchanged. When Israelis living abroad are asked what they miss most about home, Osem products appear on almost every list.

At KosherTop, we carry the complete Osem range — shipped directly from Israel to your door in the USA. Here is every product, organized by category, with the story behind each one.

Part 1 — The Snacks

Bamba — Israel's Most Iconic Snack

(cite index="27-1">Bamba is a baked snack containing 50% peanuts, enriched in vitamins and iron and free of preservatives and food coloring. Due to its uniqueness — soft yet crispy, savory yet sweet — Bamba is loved by Israelis of all ages.</cite)

Bamba has been Israel's best-selling snack since 1964. More than that — it has been a national institution. Israeli babies eat it almost from birth. Israeli children bring it to school every day. Israeli adults eat it while watching football, playing backgammon, and sitting in sukkahs. Israelis living abroad request it in suitcases. Tourists buy it at Ben Gurion Airport on the way home.

The formula has never changed: puffed corn, peanut butter, no preservatives, no artificial coloring, no added sugar. Naturally vegan, kosher parve. The cleanest label of any snack in Israel — and one of the cleanest labels of any popular snack anywhere in the world.

Bissli — The Crunchy Snack That Started a Category

(cite index="23-1">The invention originates in 1970, when Osem recognized that Israel lacks a savory snacks market. Grill-Flavored Bissli was born out of Osem's pasta production expertise. The name is the bite-size of the yummie bisslings in the bag. Today, the series includes six winning flavors: Grill, Barbecue, Onion, Pizza, Falafel and Mexican, as well as the Extreme Bissli series.</cite)

(cite index="19-1">Bissli is Osem's second-best selling snack brand after Bamba. Bissli is a crunchy snack made in the shape of pasta. The name is a combination of the Hebrew words "bis" meaning "bite of food" and "li" meaning "for me."</cite)

Fifty-six years after its invention, Bissli remains one of the most distinctive snacks in the world. The shape (pasta spirals, wheels, or tubes depending on the flavor), the texture (hard crunch that softens slowly), and the bold, savory seasonings — particularly the Grill flavor — are unlike anything available in American snack culture.

The Bissli Flavor Ranking (according to passionate Israeli debate):

  • Grill — Smoky, savory, the undisputed classic. Everyone's entry point.
  • Falafel — The surprise hit. Herby, cumin-forward, addictive.
  • Onion — Sharp, deeply savory, the most Israeli flavor.
  • BBQ — Sweeter and smokier, the American-friendly option.
  • Pizza — Tomato and herb. Controversial but beloved.
  • Onion Extreme — For those who found regular onion insufficiently intense.

Apropo — Israel's Answer to Bugles

Cone-shaped corn snacks, slightly cheesy, with the satisfying crunch of a well-made corn chip and a seasoning that is subtly more complex than American equivalents. In Israel, Apropo is commonly eaten with white cheese or cottage cheese scooped inside the cone — a classic afternoon snack that is equal parts practical and delicious. Kosher parve.

Tapuchips — Israel's Potato Chip

Tapuchips (literally "apple chips" — though they are potato chips — from the Hebrew tapuach adama, "earth apple") are Israel's classic potato chip brand, produced by Osem in flavors including Original, Barbecue, Sour Cream & Onion, and Honey BBQ. Thicker-cut than most American chips, with a satisfying crunch and bold Israeli seasoning.

Part 2 — The Biscuits & Cookies

Petit Beurre — Israel's Most Essential Biscuit

Petit Beurre is the biscuit that built Israeli baking culture. Flat, lightly sweet, with a particular texture — not too crumbly, not too hard — that is perfect for eating with coffee and essential for uga biskvitim (no-bake chocolate biscuit cake).

(cite index="22-1">Osem Petit Beurre — some love stories last a lifetime.</cite) This tagline is not hyperbole. Israeli children eat Petit Beurre as their first solid food. Israeli adults eat it with afternoon coffee for the rest of their lives. And in between, it is the foundation of the most beloved Israeli home dessert.

Lemon Wafers — The Classic Israeli Cookie

Osem's lemon wafer cookies — light, crispy, with a bright lemon cream filling — are one of the most recognizable Israeli cookies. Sold in every Israeli supermarket, served alongside tea at every gathering, and consistently requested by Israelis living abroad who can't find them anywhere else.

Part 3 — The Kitchen Staples

Shkedei Marak — The Soul of Israeli Chicken Soup

(cite index="26-1">Osem Soup Almonds — known in Hebrew as Shkedei Marak — are one of Israel's most iconic comfort foods. These tiny golden crisps add a satisfying crunch to any bowl of soup, bringing the familiar taste of home to Jewish households worldwide. They are a cultural symbol that appears at holiday meals, Friday-night dinners, and gatherings across Israeli families.</cite)

Shkedei Marak (literally "soup almonds") are small, crunchy, almond-shaped croutons made from baked wheat — floated on top of Israeli chicken soup the way oyster crackers accompany chowder in New England. But the comparison undersells them. Shkedei Marak in chicken soup is not a condiment. It is the finishing touch that transforms a bowl of soup into a Shabbat memory.

Every Israeli knows the specific sound of Shkedei Marak being poured from the bag into a bowl. Every Israeli knows the specific soggy texture they achieve after three minutes in hot broth, and the debate about whether that is better or worse than the initial crunch.

Ptitim (Israeli Couscous) — Ben-Gurion's Rice

(cite index="28-1">In 1953, upon a request by Israel's first prime minister David Ben-Gurion, Osem added its staple "rice-substitute" product — ptitim.</cite) During the early years of the state, rice was scarce and expensive. Ben-Gurion asked Osem to produce a wheat-based substitute that could feed a growing nation. The result — pearl-shaped toasted pasta that looks like oversized couscous — was initially called "Ben-Gurion's rice." Today it is known worldwide as Israeli couscous, and it appears on restaurant menus from New York to Tokyo.

Ptitim is one of the most versatile pantry staples in Israeli cooking. Toasted in olive oil, cooked in chicken broth, and tossed with vegetables and herbs — it becomes a substantial side dish in 15 minutes. Mixed with tahini and roasted vegetables, it becomes a complete meal. Used in soups, it adds body and texture.

Osem Soup Mix — The Shabbat Pantry Essential

Osem's chicken-flavor soup mix is the pantry staple that generations of Israeli home cooks have relied on for quick, flavorful soups and sauces. Not a replacement for real chicken soup — but an essential flavor enhancer for rice, couscous, ptitim, and weeknight soups.

Osem Schnitzel Coating — Crispy Every Time

Israel's love affair with schnitzel — thin, breaded, pan-fried chicken breast — is serious, and Osem's schnitzel coating mix is the reason Israeli schnitzel is reliably crispy. The seasoned breadcrumb mixture produces the specific light, golden crust that distinguishes Israeli schnitzel from every other version.

Part 4 — The Cakes

Osem Ready-Made Cakes — The Israeli Pantry Shortcut

Osem's cake range produces results that genuinely compete with homemade — because Osem has been perfecting these formulas for decades, in the Israeli market where home bakers are demanding.

Chocolate Cake 400g — The classic Israeli loaf cake. Moist, rich, deeply chocolatey. Made with real cocoa, eggs, and the Osem formula that Israeli families have been using since before most of them were born. The Friday morning cake that means Shabbat is coming.

Checkers Vanilla & Chocolate Cake 320g — The marble cake. Vanilla and chocolate swirled together in a pattern that produces a different ratio of flavors in every slice. The children's party cake, the school cake, the cake that is always gone before you expected.

Why Osem from Israel Is Different

Osem products are available in American kosher stores and on Amazon — but the freshness difference between a product shipped directly from Israel and one that has been sitting in a US warehouse for several months is noticeable.

Bamba, in particular, is sensitive to staleness. Fresh Bamba is light, airy, and delicate. Warehouse-aged Bamba has a flatter texture and a duller flavor. The difference is immediate and unmistakable the moment you open a bag.

When you order Osem products from KosherTop, your Bamba was produced last week. Your Bissli was packed this month. Everything arrives with maximum remaining shelf life and the flavor of products at their absolute best.
