Heinz is releasing tomato seasoning (so-called "ketchup" until the court ruling on the matter) with 50% less sugar and 25% less sodium (salt). The company says it has retained the familiar Heinz product taste, and has responded to requests from many mothers seeking familiar foods for family members with a lower amount of sugar and salt.
The new product contains sweeteners from natural sources. Thus, some of the sugar has been replaced by the stevia plant originating in South America. Stevia has sweet leaves and is used as a natural sweetener and plant. The stevia plant extracts have up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, but from a natural source.
